MOUND
STUDIO CITY
Mound is a new 2989 SF house located in Studio City. The massing and site design were strongly influenced by it’s surrounding context, as well as some key desires of the client. We were asked to maximize the residential floor area, provide high ceilings, create two distinct living spaces, and utilize passive systems. The house takes advantage of a long south facing facade, optimizing daylight & solar heat gain, and strategically placed operable windows that essentially create a wind chimney, drawing air through the house, up and out at the homes highest point in the upstairs hall. As mentioned earlier, the client wanted two types of living spaces - 1 more private, that could serve family functions, and one more open/communal space that, through the design process, became an “L” wrapping around the new pool & spa, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor. Both of the living rooms also have vaulted ceilings & vented skylights to maximize breezes, and create spatial variety. The home features one guest-bedroom downstairs that opens out to the backyard, and 4 bedrooms upstairs — 3 kids and 1 primary.
This project is currently in Plan Check.
